30th anniversary of becoming a member of the United Nations

Statement by:

Ambassador Chigiyal

New York, 17 September 2021

Thirty years ago today, our nation joined the global community in becoming a member of the United Nations. We are very proud and jubilant to have arrived at this milestone. At 30, as a nation with deeply rooted values in Christianity, we find inspiration in the Scripture’s meaning of that milestone as a time when one has reached both physical and mental maturity. Our beloved nation, through many challenges and daunting obstacles, has reached that milestone. As we commemorate this important anniversary, we are fully aware that much work remains ahead and our nation remains determined to implement the SAMOA Pathway and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We look forward to continue to work with our partners to this end.

The Permanent Mission of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United Nations will do its part to deliver on the vision of our forefathers whose wisdom and determination culminated in our UN membership thirty years ago, today. We congratulate our neighbor and sister nation of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the others who joined us in our thirty year journey as members of the United Nations.
