Annual Pacific Educational Conference early August
PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): May 5, 1998 – President
Jacob Nena regretfully inform Dr. John Kofel that he would not
be able to attend the 15th Annual Pacific Educational Conference
scheduled for August 4 to the 6. However, he is designating Deputy
Secretary of the FSM Department of Health, Education and Social
Affairs to attend the meeting on his behalf.
The conference theme is “Pacific Educators: Voyaging
with a Vision”, which Nena said, is central to the development
in the FSM.
Annually, the conference participation was over 1000 people
from across the Pacific, US mainland and numerous international
locations.
During the three-day event, over 150 workshop presentations
are offered, covering a wide range of topics relevant to strengthening
the education of children. It has become the event for Pacific
educators to share successes, learn from each other, and further
networks to better serve children.
The conference places a heavy emphasis on cultural learning
and sharing. Various delegations share songs, dances, or other
important aspects of their culture during the course of the conference.
