APCC Set Coconut Day on September 2

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): September 2, 2008 – The Asia-Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) member countries agreed at the 35th APCC Session to have a “Coconut Day”. The Coconut Day is celebrated at the national and regional levels and was intended to be an annual event.

The annual celebration of the Coconut Day is aimed at creating more awareness on the importance of the coconut and help focus the world attention to this crop to enhance its potentials in alleviating poverty, encourage investment in the sector and promote total development of the coconut industry in the producing countries.

In the absence of a commemorative activity to celebrate the Coconut Day, let us focus our attention on this Theme, “Tree of Life” […] to eat, drink, plant and use the coconut on September 2nd 2008.
