 Cholera outbreak on Pohnpei prompts COM-FSM to end semester earlyPOHNPEI, Palikir (FSM Information Service): May 2000 – The College of Micronesia-FSM national campus in Palikir has ended the semester early because of the island’s cholera outbreak. The closure is a precautionary measure. The move affects almost 800 students, who have been told that their semester grade will be determined based on what it is at this point. There will be no final exams for this semester. Students staying in the dorm will remain on campus because the Palikir water system has been deemed safe by health officials. Almost 200 students live in the dorms. Students and faculty were informed of the decision late this morning after a college cabinet meeting. The cholera outbreak has shut down all schools on Pohnpei Island.
