 Chronic Disease Risk Reduction Conference to be held In ChuukPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services/DHSA): December 3, 2010 – A chronic disease risk reduction conference will be held on December 6-10, 2010, at the High Tide Hotel and Restaurant in Chuuk, FSM. This conference is sponsored by the National Cancer, Diabetes and Tobacco Programs. This is the first combined meeting of the 3 programs that deal with the prevention and control of chronic non-communicable diseases in the FSM. The combined efforts shows a very positive collaboration in dealing with the diseases that are contributing to high rates of mortality, heavy burdens on the lives of the people, negative impacts productivity of the work force, and the increasing cost of health care, among many things. This conference will bring together service providers, community supporters, policy and law makers, educators, NGO members and young people to review: the status of the chronic diseases, the current approaches to the prevention and control of these diseases, and the potential means of moving forward for a healthier FSM.
