Chuuk Upward Bound Students and Staff Visited COM-FSM

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): July 8, 1997
17 Upward Bound students from Chuuk High School and Director Doliver
Salle, Counselor Lydia Emwalu and Lead-Instructor Tongei Jain arrived
Pohnpei from Chuuk as part of the Upward Bound Program for a
familiarization tour in order to experience life on COM-FSM Palikir
Campus.

On July 1, 1997, the group visited the FSM Capital in Palikir and
paid courtesy call on Vice President Leo A. Falcam. They also
visited the offices of the Attorney General, the Department of
Education, the Department of External Affairs, the FSM Supreme Court
and Congress.

While in Pohnpei, the group lives on COM-FSM Campus and also
observe summer classes in order to introduce them to college life.
The group returned to Chuuk on July 5, 1997, with some appreciation
and outlook on college.

The Upward Bound Program in Chuuk received grant funds from U.S.
Federal Government through the COM-FSM System. It include programs
operation and funds for travel and stipend for the participants.
Other related activities are the Talent Search Program and Student
Services, Instructor Tongei Jain said.
