CNMI on to host 2006 Micronesian Games

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Service): April 4, 2006 – Earlier this year, CNMI had registered that it was unable to host the much anticipated Micro Games, but later reversed its decision and announced that the Games are to go on as scheduled.

The 2006 Micronesian Games willl begin Friday – June 23 and conclude on Sunday – July 2, 2006.

Participating Micronesian nations will be: the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Guam, Republic of Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Kiribati, and the four FSM States of Pohnpei Yap Chuuk and Kosrae.

According to the FSM NOC, the Micronesia Games will involve 17 variety of sports including the following: Athletics, Baseball, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Golf, Softball,- Fast Pitch, Softball- Slow Pitch, Wrestling, Weightlifting, and Micronesian All Around.

The sports offices in the four states are finalizing plans and practices to compete in their sports of choice.
