PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): November 17,
1997 – President Jacob Nena, on October 28, 1997, informed,
endorsed and congratulated Mrs. Kimiko Elanzo for her appointment to
the National Woman’s Advisory Council (NWAC) succeeding Mrs. Selihna
Johnson from Pohnpei.
Elanzo was nominated by the State of Pohnpei for appointment by
the President as Pohnpei State’s representative on the FSM National
Woman’s Advisory Council.
Elanzo is a former member of Pohnpei State Legislature who served
in the Third Legislature as Vice Chairman of Education and Cultural
Affairs Committee among others. She was also a former Elementary
School teacher and a widow of late Ywao Elanzo from the Marshall
Islands.
The President encouraged the members of NWAC to continue to
promote and advocate Woman’s, Youth’s, Children’s and Family Issues.
Nena said in his letter, adding that Elanzo’s appointment coincides
with his administration’s efforts to win the support and ratification
of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by FSM Congress.
“I encourage you all to continue to promote and advocate for
Women’s, Youth’s, Children’s and Families’ Rights and Issues,” Nena
concluded.
Copies of Nena’s letter were sent to members of NWAC and Pohnpei
Women Council.
