Falcam Congratulates U.S. on its 221st Anniversary
PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): July 8, 1997 –
FSM Vice President Leo A. Falcam was invited to attend the
celebration on July 4th, of the 221st anniversary of the Declaration
of Independence of the United States of America from Great Britain on
July 4, 1776. The celebration was held at the resident of the Charge
d’Affaires, United States Embassy in Kolonia.
Vice President Falcam at the outset thanked the Embassy officials
for inviting him to the 221st anniversary celebration of the U.S.
Independence, adding, “On behalf of President Nena, and the
Leadership and people of the FSM, I extend warm greetings and sincere
felicitations to the Government and people of the United States on
this special day, your National Day.”
“On this important day,” he said, “it is fitting to take stock of
the past and look to the future of your great country. In sharing
your festive spirit, it is also fitting that we reflect upon the
special bond and excellent friendship that the FSM and the United
States have enjoyed for many years, a friendship of which we can be
proud. Needless to say, this relationship underpins our two
countries cooperation on all levels and has become extremely
beneficial to the advancement of our common interests and values. I
am hopeful that this special bond we have will continue to be the
thriving force behind our shared undertakings in the future.”
“The FSM values its relationship with the United States,” Falcam
said, adding, “We have come a long way and indeed there is more to
learn from each other. As the world becomes smaller with new
challenges and problems, it behooves us to continue to nourish and
cherish our relationship. The FSM remains thankful for many
assistance extended to us through the Compact Agreement, and we
remain hopeful that the U.S. continues to show interest in the future
aspirations of the FSM.”
“The U.S. Embassy in Pohnpei is unquestionably a strong symbol of
U.S. commitment to the FSM, and we are very grateful for the role it
continues to play in the FSM. We have an excellent working
relationship with the staff of the Embassy and appreciate their
friendship and professional assistance,” the Vice President said.
At the conclusion of his remarks, Vice President Falcam proposed a
toast to the personal good health of President William Clinton and
the enduring prosperity of the people of the United States of
America.
The occasion was attended by the staff and other U.S. citizens in
Pohnpei, the FSM State and National Government officials, the members
of the Diplomatic Corps and invited friends.
