Forum launches essay competition for Pacific youth

Palikir, POHNPEI (Pacific Islands Forum/FSM Information Services): May 13, 2005 – The Secretariat of the Pacific Islands Forum has launched an essay competition for Pacific students to write about, the ‘Benefits of Working Together Regionally.’

Co-sponsored by the United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the competition targets high school and college students between the ages of 16 and 24. The essay is limited to 1,500 words and must be submitted by August 31, 2005.

The winner of the competition will be given an opportunity to meet with the Leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum during their meeting in Papua New Guinea late this year.

The competition was launched at the Pacific Youth Summit in Samoa on May 10.
