FSM Compact Program Discussed In Pohnpei

SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety): July 9, 2003 – Officials from the Federated States of Micronesia and the United States held a meeting recently in Pohnpei to discuss the new Humanitarian Assistance-FSM program.

The HA-FSM program is the replacement of the Civic Action Team as part of the changes under the amended Compact signed on May 14.

In attendance from the FSM were Cabinet officials, Gov. Ansito Walter, Gov. Rensley Sigrah, as well as the directors from the budget, planning and infrastructure offices of the FSM states.

In attendance from the U.S. were Ambassador Larry Dinger, CDR Diane Watabayashi, LTC Frank Jordano, Maj. Lana Laurino, Ron Winfrey, Master Chief Don Lynch, and staff from the U.S. Embassy and the Pohnpei CAT.

The meeting provided both sides the opportunity to discuss in detail the procedure and funding requirement for the new program.
