FSM Congress News, October 15, 2004

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Congress): October 15, 2004 – The First Micronesian Legislative Conference, which convened on the 13th of October, came to a close Friday, October 15, 2004.

The participants of the conference included top officials of the state legislatures in the FSM, Members of the FSM Congress and invited officials of certain institutions to address the conference in areas of their expertise.

The legislators and congressmen took the advantage of the opportunity and focused their discussions on issues facing the FSM as a whole.

By mutual agreement of the conference, discussions on the issues will continue between the states and the national legislative bodies and the solutions to such issues will be addressed on a case by case basis depending on the urgency of the matter. The agreement came as a way to ensure that such cases are addressed thoroughly and surely.

Participants of the conference agreed on some issues of importance for the Honorable Peter M. Christian, Speaker of the FSM Congress, to find the appropriate persons and discuss these issues as a starting point and inform his state counter parts of the information gathered and see what each body can do to collectively address such issues. The conference also discussed other issues that were on the agenda plus those raised by the states. The conference will reconvene again early next year.
