Federated States of Micronesia establishes Diplomatic Relations with Ireland

New York (FSM Permanent Mission to the UN): October 27, 2004 –
The Government of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and the Government of Ireland enter into diplomatic relations with the signing of a Joint Communiqué between the Ambassadors of the two countries in New York on 27 October 2004. The FSM Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Masao Nakayama, and Ireland’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Richard Ryan signed the Joint Communiqué on behalf of their countries.

Apart from the signing of the Joint Communiqué, the two Ambassadors also discussed issues of mutual interest to their countries, including access to Ireland’s expertise in the fields of fisheries, tourism and information technology (IT) – a field in which Ireland is a recognized world leader. Ambassador Ryan expressed the hope that when traveling to Europe, FSM experts in such fields would include on their itineraries visits to Ireland to meet with their counterparts.

Ireland becomes the 54^th country that has established diplomatic relations with the FSM.
