 FSM expresses support for US’s stand on Iran’s nuclear programPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services – June 2, 2006): June 2, 2006 – President Joseph J. Urusemal said today that the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia joins the international community in urging Iran to fully and verifiably suspend uranium enrichment activities. A recent report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has made it known that the Director General, Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, is unable to certify the peaceful nature of Iran’s enrichment program. The FSM Government views this with grave concern and encourages Iran to give full cooperation to the United Nation’s Security Council and to return to the negotiating table. President Urusemal encourages Iran to make efforts to cooperate with the United States and the three European Union nations of Britain, France and Germany – also known as the “EU-3”. Efforts by Iran to adhere to the calls of the international community may lead to a diplomatic solution. Mindful of the fact that many of FSM’s sons and daughters are serving in the US Armed Forces, President Urusemal expresses his earnest hope for a peaceful outcome. The President calls on the international community to join in the efforts to find a diplomatic solution to benefit not only the Iranian people but also lead towards regional stability and a non-proliferation regime.
