FSM Gears up to host the 19th SPREP Meeting

Palikir, POHNPEI (Dept. of Foreign Affairs): March 18, 2008 – The Federated States of Micronesia will host the first time the 19th Meeting of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP) scheduled for September 4-12, 2008.

This is an historic undertaking for the nation which will require a collective effort from all walks of the FSM society to ensure a successful outcome.

Since offering to host the meeting during the 2007 SPREP meeting in Apia, the Federated States of Micronesia, led by the Honorable Vice-President Alik L. Alik, as Chairman of Overall Committees, has begun the nation’s preparatory efforts to host this important meeting. Sub-committees have been established with chairpersons to undertake the respective requirements and responsibilities of the host.

FSM’s hosting of SPREP, the Pacific region’s premier organization with mandate over environmental issues is timely, as it compliments and strengthens the new government and focus on environmental conservation and management.
