FSM Government files criminal charges against Marehalau and Calderon

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): May 21, 2007 – The Government of the Federated States of Micronesia has filed criminal charges against former Ambassador Jesse Marehalau and former FSM Embassy employee Enrico Calderon.

Filed with the FSM Supreme Court on May 14 2007, the FSM Government charged both Marehalau and Calderon with alleged criminal conspiracy and alleged violations of the FSM Financial Management Regulations.

The charges were filed as a result of over 12 months of investigation by FSM Government on the alleged passport conspiracy at the FSM Embassy in Washington DC.

In March 2006 a former FSM Embassy employee and Filipino national Enrico Calderon was arrested for and later charged by the United States Government with alleged Conspiracy to Import Illegal Aliens into the U.S. using illegally issued FSM passports.

The National Government consequently launched an extensive investigation into the allegations. Having completed its investigations, the FSM Government filed its findings with the FSM Supreme Court on Monday – May 14, 2007.
