FSM signs diplomatic relations with MexicoNEW YORK, 27 September 2001: The Government of the Federated States of Micronesia and the Government of Mexico consummated diplomatic relations by the signing of a Joint Communique by the two countries Permanent Representatives in a brief ceremony held at the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the United Nations in New York. Mexico is an active member of the United Nations since 1945, and in terms of the regional grouping at the United Nations, belongs to GRULAC (Group of Latin American and Caribbean States), one of the five UN regional groupings. In March 2002, Mexico will host the United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development which purpose is to allow for an in-depth examination of the key development issues within the context of globalization.
