Federated States of Micronesia signs diplomatic relations with Ukraine
NEW YORK, September 17, 1999 (FSM Permanent Mission to the UN) –
The Governments of the Federated States of Micronesia and of
the Ukraine established diplomatic relations today, September 17,
1999. At a ceremony held at the Permanent Mission of the Ukraine,
H.E. Volodymyr Yel’chenko, Permanent Representative of Ukraine and
Mr. Tadao P. Sigrah, Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission
of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United Nations signed a
Joint Communique establishing relations at the Ambassadorial level
between the two countries.
The Joint Communique stresses the intend “to develop bilateral
co-operation in the political, trade, economic and other fields of
interest to both countries” in accordance with the Charter of the
United Nations.
Ukraine is a founding member of the United Nations and remains
active today with the former Foreign Minister, H.E. Hennadiy Udovenko
having been President of the Fifty-Second General Assembly. Ukraine’s
population consist of about 50 million people and its territory is
the second largest in Europe with its capital city being Kyiv.
