Federated States of Micronesia signs UNESCO Constitution
NEW YORK, October 19, 1999 (FSM Permanent Mission to the UN) –
The Government of the Federated States of Micronesia signed the
UNESCO constitution today in London, England. At 3:00 p.m. Ambassador
Nakayama of the Permanent Mission of the Federated States of
Micronesia to the United Nations in New York signed the United
Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s
Constitution making the Federated States of Micronesia the 188th
member. Present at the signing were Mrs. Nakayama and Mr. Jeem
Lippwe, Minister of the Permanent Mission of the Federated States of
Micronesia to the UN.
Following the signing of the UNESCO Constitution, Ambassador and
Mrs. Nakayama and Mr. Lippwe traveled to Paris to attend the UNESCO
General Conference and will be joined by Vice President Killion and
Dr. Mauricio.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization was established in 1945 and aims to “contribute to peace
and security by promoting collaboration among nations through
education, science and culture. Its highest body is the General
Conference which meets biannually and in which the delegation of the
Federated States of Micronesia, will participate.
