Government transfers Capital utilities to PUC

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): March 01, 2005 – The Government of the Federated States of Micronesia has transferred ownership of the nation’s capital utilities to the Pohnpei Utilities Corporation.

A signing ceremony on February 11 2005, between the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Infrastructure and Communications – Akillino H. Susaia and the General Manager of the Pohnpei Utilities Corporation (PUC) – Marcelino K. Actouka, officially turned-over the operations and maintenance of the FSM Capital utilities to PUC.

Under the Agreement, the water services that had previously been provided free of charge by the national government to the adjacent communities and the College of Micronesia – Palikir Campus, would be subjected to PUC procedures and standard tariff rates.

Maintenance and operations of the FSM Capitals sewer systems and the power lines services whilst still adhering to PUC procedures and tariffs, have, under the Agreement, become full responsibility of the PUC.
