Israeli Eye Specialists Help Micronesians

KOLONIA, Pohnpei (Radio Australia): September 19, 2002 – Top Israeli eye doctors have returned to the Federated States of Micronesia to resume clinics conducted last year that have helped restore the eyesight of hundreds of Micronesians.

The Israeli ophthalmologists will spend the next two weeks on Pohnpei treating such eye diseases as cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

The doctors come from Tel Aviv University and the Goldschleger Eye Institute.

The clinics are run in coordination with the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s Center for International Cooperation and the Israeli Embassy in Australia.

They result from an economic and technical cooperation agreement between Israel and the FSM.
