JICA designated as an International Agency

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): July 22, 2002 – The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been designated by President Leo A. Falcam, as an International Organization in the Federated States of Micronesia.

The Government of Japan through its Embassy in Pohnpei requested on May 22, 2002, the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia to admit the Japan International Cooperation Agency to open an overseas office in the FSM and accept a resident representative and their staff to be dispatched from Japan.

The request had been reviewed and showed that under Sections 201 to 209 of Title 10 of the FSM Code, JICA has met all the requirements of an international organization.

On July 12, 2002, Presidential Order No. 20, designated the Japan International Cooperation Agency as an international organization to be accorded the status, immunities, exemptions, and privileges set forth in Title 10 of the FSM Code.
