Kosrae Pole Hardening Project

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): September 8,
1997
– FSM Ambassador to the United States of America Jesse
Marehalau informed FSM President Jacob Nena that on August 28, 1997,
he submitted to Mr. Allen Stayman, Director of the Office of Insular
Affairs, U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), an application from
the State of Kosrae, for Technical Assistance Funds.

The $350,000 requested is for matching local or FEMA funds for the
Kosrae Pole Hardening Project. To replace wooden poles with concrete
electric poles. The project is to enhance the reliability of the
13.8k distribution line between Tofol and Okat by strengthening
poles, increasing wire size and clearing right-of-way.

FEMA is to contribute an equal amount in its on-going Mitigation
Program, says Acting Special Assistant for Disaster Control and
Special Program John Mangefel, adding that the project will commence
soon after approval is received from DOI.
