Nena Recalls FSM Envoys to Tokyo, Suva and the U.N.
PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): September 23,
1997 – FSM President Jacob Nena, on October 20, 1997, responded
to Honorable Isaac Figir’s letter of October 15, 1997. Senator Figir
is Chairman of the Committee on External Affairs, under whose
jurisdiction falls responsibility over foreign affairs, including the
review and recommendation on newly appointed ambassadors.
Figir inquired concerning the status of ambassadorial posts in
Japan, Fiji and the United Nations.
Nena said he has recalled both Ambassadors Masao Nakayama and Alik
Alik on October 1, 1997. They are now in Pohnpei, he said.
He further requested Congress to confirm the nominations of Masao
Nakayama as FSM Ambassador to the United Nations, Alik Alik as FSM
Ambassador to Japan and Godaro Gallen as the new Ambassador to Fiji.
“We stand ready to provide any needed information on the three
candidates”, Nena concluded.
