Nena Requested Congress to Increase Ceiling

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): November 20,
1997
– President Jacob Nena, on November 6, 1997, transmitted to
Congress Speaker Jack Fritz for action a proposed amendment to the
1998 National Government Budget Act.

The proposed amendment seeks to facilitate part-time into
employment ceiling for Postal Services in order that such employees
may participate in the Early Retirement Program if they are inclined.
At present, National Government permanent part-time employees are not
included in the employment ceiling.

There would not be a mechanism to maintain future budgetary and
administrative control over such abolished positions if a request for
additional slots are made in the future, Nena concluded.
