OIA’s OMIP Project Proposals

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): March 3, 1997 – Acting President Jacob Nena transmitted to Congress Speaker Jack Fritz on February 18, 1997, for consideration and approval of Congress three project proposals to be funded under Officer of Insular Affairs (OIA) Operations and Maintenance Improvement Program (OMIP) of the US Department of the Interior.

Two of the projects are for Pohnpei State which include a Civil Engineer Advisor to assist in the physical infrastructure developments, review of capital improvement projects and development of regulations for land use, building and housing. The other project is for continued development of power utilities for Pohnpei State’s five-year period.

Total costs of the first project is $122,000, $61,000 of which will be from the OIA while $61,000 from Pohnpei State. The second project will cost $912,000 which Pohnpei State will contribute $717,000 while OIA will provide $717,000.

The third project is for the maintenance and replacement of the roofing of Kosrae Airport Terminal building which is deteriorating rapidly due to normal wear and tear, Nena stated. This project would cost $400,000, $200,000 from OIA and $200,000 from Kosrae State.
