Pohnpei Special Election for At-Large seat in Congress

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): June 2, 1997 –
A special election will be held in Pohnpei, July 2, 1997, to fill the
At-Large seat in Congress vacated by Leo A. Falcam when he was
elected by Congress as Vice President of the Federated States of
Micronesia, May 11, 1997 and was sworn in, may 14, 1997.

Up to 9:00 this morning, June 2, 1997, the following have filled
their application as candidate of the special election: Mideon G.
Neth, Edwel Santos and Bellarmine Ioanis. Nine other people have
picked up their application but have not yet filed. They are Kohper
Sohs A. (Kisin Men Tikitik), Herman P. Semens, Elias Thomas, Beauleen
Carl, Simon Kihleng, Yosuo Phillip, Resio Moses, William Seneres and
Bellarmine Helgenberger, according to National Election Director, Max
Mallarme.

The deadline for filing application is 12:00 midnight tonight,
June 2, 1997.
