Pohnpei State Department of Land and Natural Resources Receives Technical Assistance Grant

Palikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): July 8, 2009 – The Hon. Lorin Robert, Secretary of FSM Department of Foreign Affairs, has received and signed a Grant Award which provides $55,000 to the Pohnpei State Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Survey and Mapping. These funds are provided by the US Department of the Interior, Office of Insular Affairs Technical Assistance Grants Program, to continue the Pohnpei Survey and Mapping Modernization Project.

The grant enables Pohnpei’s Division of Survey and Mapping to purchase two laptops and field support materials; repair and maintain survey trucks and equipment; and provides funds to attend the “Pacific Association of Land Professional Conference and workshop”.

President Mori has communicated with Pohnpei Governor John Ehsa on the acceptance of this grant. In his communication, the President commended Gov. Ehsa on Pohnpei’s continued effort in being proactive in the assessment and modernization of Pohnpei’s mapping scheme.
