President Calls for Third Special Session of FSM Congress

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): October 30, 2007 – President Manny Mori has called for a special session of the 15th Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia to convene November 14, 2007, for a period of ten (10) days.

In a letter to Speaker Figir dated October 25, 2007 President Mori requests Congress to consider the following matters:

  1. Proposed amendments to the FYO7 Budget Act, as amended, and the FYO8 Budget Act,

  2. Bill No. CB 15-62 (providing for the appointments of the FSM’s JEMCO and Compact Trust Fund Committee representatives);.

  3. Bill No. 15-63 (relating authorization of the $4 million grant from the People’s Republic of China for “emergency government reforms”);

  4. Bill No.15-67 (appropriation requests for outstanding government debts, funding of the FSM Compact Review Committee and for other purposes);

  5. A Resolution and related matters authorizing the FSM Fuel Corporation to borrow money;

  6. Congressional Bill No. 15-64 ( a proposed amendments to Title 54 of the FSM code relating limited exemptions from the Gross Revenue Tax for businesses involving significant investments in the FSM);

  7. The Nominations for the various national boards and commissions and cabinet and diplomatic posts; and

Another appropriation measures to be submitted.

President Mori noted that for the sake of our national progress he ask the Congress for their continued cooperation on the above measures.
