President Mori Declared November 14th as Diabetes Day in the FSM

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Service): November 7, 2007 – On October 31, 2007, President Manny Mori signed a Presidential Declaration declaring November 14th as Diabetes Day in the FSM.

The Declaration reads:

PRESIDENTIAL DECLARATION

DECLARING NOVEMBER 14TH DIABETES DAY IN THE
FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIA

WHEREAS, the United States and the International Diabetes Federation has proclaimed November 14th the World Diabetes Day; and

WHEREAS, diabetes is a serious and a lifelong and costly disease that is alarmingly increasing in the Federated States of Micronesia; and

WHEREAS, Physical activity, proper diet, maintaining an ideal weight, healthy good choices, healthy lifestyle, blood glucose monitoring, public health education, awareness campaign, self care management and early detection of diabetes are amongst the prevention and control care model; and

Federated States of Micronesia believes that children and young adults can be given the opportunity at such age to choose to live a healthier lifestyle in order to prevent and control diabetes; and

NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the power vested in me as President of the Federated States of Micronesia, I hereby proclaim November 14th, Diabetes Day in the FSM. I urge all citizens, especially the young to participate in the World Diabetes Day activities.
