President Mori Declares November 14 World Food Day

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Service): November 6, 2008 – On October 31st President Manny Mori has signed a Presidential Proclamation declaring November 14, 2008 as World Food Day.

The Declaration Reads:

PRESIDENTIAL PROCLAMATION
DECLARING NOVEMBER 14, 2008
WORLD FOOD DAY 2008

WHEREAS, World Food Day was celebrated internationally every year;

WHEREAS, the Food and Agriculture Organization has invited Member Nations to observe World Food Day;

WHEREAS, the Federated States of Micronesia became member of the Food and Agriculture Organization on November 14, 2003;

WHEREAS, the Federated States of Micronesia intends to celebrate World Food Day activities and with the theme ‘World Food Security: the Challenges of Climate Change and Bio-energy’;

WHEREAS, the Federated States of Micronesia considers food security and the challenges of climate change to be central to the Nation’s economic and social development; and

NOW THEREFORE, by virtue of the power vested in me, as President of the Federated States of Micronesia, I hereby declare and proclaim November 14, 2008 to be the Celebration Day for World Food Day, to be observed through out the Federation, and I urge all citizens to participate in the World Food Day celebrations.
