President Urusemal calls for Special Session of FSM Congress

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): November 1, 2005 – President Joseph J. Urusemal has called for a five-day Special Session of the Fourteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia.

The President’s letter to Speaker Peter M. Christian, proposes a convening date of Monday – November 7th, to consider “urgent matters that need to be addressed before the end of the calendar year.”

According to President Urusemal’s letter, the matters to be addressed by the Government before the end of 2005 include:

  • the Asian Development Bank’s Omnibus Infrastructure Development Loan;

  • the Compact Carry-over Capacity Building Grant;

  • the Infrastructure Sector Grant;

  • the FSM Postal Services

  • the Private Sector Development Loan; and

  • amendments to the Corporate Income Tax Law.

The letter further urged the Special Session to restrict the issues of discussion to only the matters noted to ensure healthy deliberations on each.
