President Veto Congressional Act 15-16

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): October 17, 2007 – President Manny Mori has vetoed congressional Act No. 15-16.

President Mori has informed Speaker Isaac V. Figir that he has to vetoed Congressional Act No. 15-16, “an Act to further amend Public Law No. 14-107, as amended, by amending section 2 thereof, to change the use of certain funds previously appropriated for election District No 1, Pohnpei State.

In a letter to Speaker Figir dated October 12, 2007 President Mori stayed that the “Act, which attempts to amend Public Laws Nos.14-104 and 15-3, was passed too close to the September 30, 2007 laps date”. President also stayed that the amendments for Election District 2, which total $8,001 are not mention in the title of the Act or in the Committee Report (15-28).

Finally, the President also noted that “I have been informed by the Director of S.B.O.C that the remaining balance for the Water Delivery project for ED2 in only $7, 620. Even if the Act had been timely, this would not be enough to cover the proposed new projects for Kitti Agriculture Fair ($3, 600) and Teacher Aid-Enpein School,($4,401).”
