Request for Vehicles for National Police

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): September 23,
1997
– President Jacob Nena, on October 19, 1997, transmitted
proposed legislation to Congress requesting an appropriation of
$30,000 for purchase of two vehicles for use by the FSM National
Police.

The existing vehicles are no longer economical to maintain because
constant use of these vehicles has worn them out and it is more
expensive to maintain them.

“Without the necessary vehicles, the National Police would not be
able to maintain a ready posture to respond to emergencies that will
arise inevitably from time to time,” Nena stated.

Nena further requested favorable consideration of Congress on
“this worthy measure,” he concluded.
