Special Election Candidates

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): June 3, 1997
Eight candidates have filed their applications to run in the July 2,
1997, special election which will be held in the State of Pohnpei to
fill the At-Large seat in Congress vacated by Leo A. Falcam when he
was elected by Congress as Vice President of the Federated States of
Micronesia, May 11, 1997 and was sworn in May 14, 1997.

Up to the deadline yesterday, June 2, 1997, the following have
filled their applications as candidates of the special election:
Mideon G. Neth, Director of Commerce and Industry and Former State
Senator; Edwel Santos, Private Lawyer; Bellarmine Ioanis, FSM
Registrar of Corporations, Resources and Development; Yusuo Phillip,
Pohnpei State Senator; Elias Thomas, Information Specialist, FSM
Public Information; Ambassador Resio S. Moses, FSM Permanent
Representative to the United Nations; William Seneres, Private
Businessman, and Herman P. Semes, Pohnpei State Senator.

Four other people have picked up their applications but did not
file, according to National Election Director Max Mallarme.
