Two FSM Carpenters Highlighted in Guam’s Pacific Daily News

Palikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): February 3, 2009 – In the December 2008 publication of TRADES, a monthly publication of the Pacific Daily News in Guam, two FSM citizens were highlighted as being certified craftsmen through a dck pacific guam, LLC apprenticeship program in a story written by Ms. Stephanie Godlewski and Mr. Jojo Santo Toams.

Mr. Tomichy Nachuo of Chuuk and Mr. Olter Joseph of Pohnpei were both enrolled in a four year apprenticeship program through their employer, dck Pacific. Both men have put in over 8,000 hours of on-the-job training as well as many hours of classwork since the program began in 2003.

These men were identified by their supervisors for selection to the apprenticeship program, and with an appreciation dinner in late October of 2008, were presented certificates of completion and are considered journeymen carpenters. In the article, both men state that it was a lot of hard work and studying that got them through the program and now it has paid off in that they have gotten more training, more experience, and are making more money in their field of work.
