US INS makes it faster for FSM citizens to work in US

POHNPEI, Palikir (FSM Information Service): July 2000 – The United States Department of Immigration and Naturalization Service has made it easier for Micronesians and other Free Association States citizens to get employment authorization documents, commonly known as EADs.

The U.S. INS has recently directed their regional and district directors and service centers to issue the EAD to FAS citizens shortly after or immediately upon submission of the application Form 1765.

This decentralization simplifies the previous practice of allowing only certain processing centers to process the documents. This often led to long waiting periods for FSM citizens before being eligible to work in the United States or its territories.
