US Military Academies Open to Qualified FSM Citizens

POHNPEI, Palikir (FSM Information Service): November 2000 – The U.S. Department of Defense and State has again extended through its Embassy in Pohnpei, an invitation for qualified FSM citizens to apply for the United States Military Academies.

In continued efforts of relationship enhancement, the U.S. Embassy announced that FSM has been selected to nominate up to six (6) candidates to compete against worldwide nominees for the available slots in the United States Military Academy Class of 2005. One hundred forty seven (147) selected countries have been invited to nominate candidates from whom the Academy will select a qualified ten to enroll in July 2001 for the new class.

Qualifying nominees must be: single and between the ages of 17 and 22; at least a high school graduate; in the top 10% of their secondary class; meet the minimum qualifications for the SAT and TOEFL, and; highly proficient in English.

The States are encouraged to submit their nominations to the Department of Foreign Affairs before January 15, 2001.
