1997
– President Jacob Nena, on November 5, 1997, transmitted a
proposed legislation to Congress requesting for an appropriation of
$15,000 to fund the travel of an FSM Delegation, to attend a
consultation meeting with the United Nations Committee on Rights of
the Child, scheduled to be held in Geneva, Switzerland in January,
1998.

During the meeting, the report of the implementation over the
previous two years by the FSM Government, of the Convention on the
Rights of the Child will be reviewed by the UN Committee, Nena

Council for children to be able to take part in the review and
comment of relevant issues when raised by the Committee.
