Statement by Ambassador Jeem S. Lippwe
Permanent Representative
New York, 12 October 2022
Mr. President,
I shall be very brief. The brevity of my statement does not in any way diminish the grave concern of my delegation on recent developments in Ukraine, and of the importance we attach to the issue before this Assembly. Micronesia aligns itself with the statement delivered earlier by the Permanent Representative of Fiji on behalf of the Pacific Islands Forum members.
My delegation appreciates the timely resumption of the Emergency Special Session, as we are deeply troubled by the events of recent days. We do not recognize the so-called referenda held in the four occupied regions and reject any attempt by the Russian Federation to incorporate Ukrainian territory. The annexation of Ukrainian territory by the Russian Federation is yet again another violation of the principles of our United Nations Charter and international law.
The Federated States of Micronesia fully supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and calls for the immediate withdrawal of all Russian Forces from said territory.
Finally, Micronesia has cosponsored the resolution and will vote “Yes”. We encourage all members of this Assembly to uphold the UN Charter and vote in favor of the resolution.
I thank you.
