UN Day Message
Ambassador Jeem S. Lippwe
Permanent Representative
New York, 24 October 2024
On this 24 October, as we celebrate United Nations Day and as Micronesians we reflect on what has been a remarkable journey. Emerging in 1986 from the Trust Territory period, we joined the United Nations on that September day in 1991 as a proud and sovereign nation, deeply appreciative of the role the United Nations has played in our path to independence and development.

As we honor this day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the United Nations for its unwavering commitment to the principles of self-determination, peace, and human dignity. The support we received during the Trust Territory period has laid a strong foundation for our continued progress and prosperity and was instrumental in shaping our democratic institutions, fostering economic development, and preserving our rich cultural heritage.
Today, Micronesia stands as a testament to the power of international cooperation and solidarity. We have transitioned to a full-fledged member of the global community, actively contributing to the shared goals of peace, development, and sustainability.
And today, Micronesia reaffirms its dedication to the principles and objectives of the United Nations. As a Pacific small island developing state, we are acutely aware of the challenges that lie ahead, particularly in the face of climate change and environmental degradation. We call on the international community to continue working together to address these pressing issues and to support the most vulnerable among us.
On this United Nations Day, as a united Micronesia we celebrate the achievements we have made together and renew our commitments to a future of cooperation, justice, and peace for all nations.
