79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly

Third Committee

Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and in Israel

Statement by: Jeem S. Lippwe, Permanent Representative

New York, 30 October 2024

    Chair,

Micronesia reiterates its commitment to the principles of peace, security, and justice for all. We recognize the importance of addressing human rights violations and ensuring accountability. However, we must express our concerns regarding the Commission of Inquiry (COI) on Israel.

While we acknowledge the need for thorough investigations, we believe it is crucial that such efforts remain impartial, unbiased, and balanced. It is imperative that the inquiry considers the complexities of the situation and the actions of all parties involved.

Micronesia stands firmly against any form of terrorism violence, or acts that target civilians. We condemn the Hamas barbaric acts of 7th October and of other terrorist groups that perpetuate conflict and instability in the region. We call for an immediate cease fire and the unconditional release of all hostages.

It is essential to address the root causes of the conflict and work towards a comprehensive and lasting peace. We urge the international community to support efforts that promote dialogue, mutual understanding, and cooperation. Only through constructive engagement can we hope to achieve a just and lasting solution that ensures the safety and dignity of all individuals in the region.

Thank you,
