 Congress extends action on nominations to next regular sessionPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): August 8, 2011 – The FSM Public Information Office would like to inform the public that the Congress has deferred action on all of the nominations submitted by President Manny Mori on July 13 to its next regular session in September 2011. Public Law No. 16-61 establishes a 90-day period after the President took oath of office for incumbents of positions requiring advice and consent of Congress to submit letters of resignation to the President. Public Las No. 17-02 requires Congress to act on Presidential nominations within two consecutive sessions or thirty days after submission of nomination. This would mean that any nomination not acted upon by the end of the second regular session, which begins September 12, will be deemed rejected. A regular session of Congress lasts for twenty days unless shortened or extended by resolution of Congress. By his letter of July 13 to Speaker Isaac V. Figir, President Mori had expressed his intension to maintain the status quo by retaining most of his cabinet members.
