FSM Celebrates International Women’s Day on March 7

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): March 5, 1997 – Acting President Jacob Nena has granted administrative leave for all who will participate in the activities relating to the celebration of International Women’s Day in the FSM on March 7, 1997, as March 8 falls on a Saturday.

Nena advised in a February 28, 1997 letter to all department, office and agency heads, the National Women’s Advisory Council (NWAC) has advised him that the Pohnpei Women’s Council (PWC) is preparing to observe International Women’s Day by co-sponsoring with the National Women’s Advisory Council special commemoration programs.

The program will begin at 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at PICS field. There will be different stands selling different things such as handicrafts, prepared food, fresh local produce, plants, etc. There will be other entertainment activities.

The following day, March 8, 1997, the girl scouts will also celebrate International Women’s Day at the same field.
