Korean Airlines eyes Pohnpei as possible route

Kolonia, Pohnpei (Pohnpei State PIO): March 1, 2002 – Governor David took the initiative to request that Korean Airlines utilize Pohnpei as an intermediate stop between Seoul, Korea, and Nandi, Fiji.

According to President Leo A. Falcam, the Department of Foreign Affairs has responded to all necessary diplomatic inquiries. If Korean Airlines agrees to this proposal the result will be more air services available in the FSM.

The announcement of a special delegation from Pohnpei was made to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea located in Suva. The delegates will travel to Korea in early March to discuss with senior government officials in the Ministry of Transportation and Korean Airline officials, the possibility of a stop in Pohnpei.

The delegates are as follows:

  1. Governor Johnny P. David
  2. Speaker Feliciano M. Perman, of the Pohnpei State Legislature
  3. Senator Frederico Primo, Chairman of Transportation, Communication, and Infrastructure Committee
  4. Yalmer Helgenberger, Administrator for the Office of Pohnpei State Economic Affairs
  5. Jay Hwang, Special Economic Consultant, Pohnpei State Economic Affairs
