 Memorial services set for the nation’s First PresidentPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): April 16, 2007 – Memorial Services for the First President of the Federated States of Micronesia, the late Tosiwo Nakayama, are schedule for tomorrow – April 17 2007, at 9:00 a.m. in the State of Chuuk. President Nakayama died on March 29, 2007, in Hawaii. He was 75. The body of the former President Nakayama returned to his home State of Chuuk on April 14, where his body laid in repose at the Nakayama compound in Nantaku awaiting the memorial services scheduled for April 17. The memorial services, as arranged, will begin at 9:00 am on April 17 with the procession of the Casket from the Nakayama compound to the Saram en Chuuk Hall for a service of Tributes and Reminiscences. It is expected that dignitaries and officials from the National Government, the State Governments, the neighboring Micronesian Governments along with various regional officials are expected to attend the services. Opening and welcoming remarks may be delivered by President Joseph J. Urusemal and Chuuk Governor Wesley Simina. The Eulogy will be delivered by a former colleague and dear friend of the late President Nakayama, the First Speaker of the FSM Congress – Bethwel Henry. While former President Leo A. Falcam, Speaker Peter M. Chrisitan and James T. Stovall III are expected to deliver the Tributes and Reminiscences. Concluding the Tributes and Reminiscences services will be special remarks from the family delivered by Ambassador Masao Nakayama. Thereafter, the Memorial Services is scheduled for 11:00 am at the Holy Family Church in Nepukos and immediately following will be the funeral services and interment at the family cemetery in Mwan Village. The Memorial Services are expected to be broadcasted live throughout the FSM beginning 9:30 am, Chuuk time.
