Nena Asks for $20,000 Head Count Money for Pohnpei

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): November 6,
1997
– President Jacob Nena, on October 28, 1997, transmitted to
Congress Speaker Jack Fritz, a proposed bill requesting for an
appropriation of $20,000 to fund a Head Count and Re-registration
Pilot Project for Pohnpei State, conducted by the Office of National
Election Director and its staff.

The $20,000 will allow completion of the pilot project, Nena
stated, that has started in Election District P-2, Kitti and
Madolenihmw, and P-3, Nett, U Mwoakilloa and Pingelap and will also
include the completion of a similar project in Election District P-1,
composed of Kolonia Town, Sokehs, Sapwuafik, Nukuoro and
Kapingamarangi municipalities.

Upon completion, an accurate General State Registry and Signature
List for all eligible voters will be compiled which will help to
ensure future fraud-free elections, Nena stated, adding, “I urge your
favorable action on this important matter.”
