Nov. 14, Diabetes Day in FSM

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): July 4, 1997
FSM President Jacob Nena, on October 28, 1997, proclaimed November
14, 1997, as Diabetes Day in the FSM in conjunction with the
declaration by the International Diabetes Federation of the same day
as the World Diabetes Day.

Diabetes is a serious and lifelong disease that affects people in
the FSM, the proclamation stated;

Diabetes and its complications can be managed and be prevented by
managing proper physical activity, diet, blood glucose monitoring,
and public health education;

It is the believe of the FSM Government that one can work to guard
against some of the problems caused by diabetes; by engaging in
activities that can improve the quality of life for those suffering
from diabetes, their families, communities and our Nation.

In proclaiming November 14th as FSM Diabetes Day, President Nena
urged all citizens to take part in activities planned for the
observance of FSM Diabetes Day, November 14th.
