Palau hosts 5th Micronesian Presidents Summit

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): July 22, 2005 – President Joseph J. Urusemal is expected to arrive in Palau today for the Fifth Micronesian Presidential Summit scheduled from July 21 – 23, 2005.

The President is to join the Republic of the Marshall Islands President – Kessai H. Note and the Republic of Palau President -Tommy E. Remengesau Jr. on various issues specific to the Micronesian nations.

Key members of President Urusemal’s cabinet had preceded the President to Palau to join their counterparts from the other two nations in detail deliberation of the various issues to raise with the Presidents.

Among which will include environmental issues, matters of economic development, various transportation and communication issues along with discussions of Prior Service and various Treaties and Laws.

The Micronesian Leaders are also expected to discuss various security issues along with matters related to the amended Compact of Free Association with the United States.

A communiqué is expected at the closing of the Summit to detail the outcome of the deliberations.
