President Mori receives the Ambassador of Austria

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Service): November 21, 2007 – Ambassador Hannes Porias of the Republic Austria presented his Letters of Credence to President Emanuel Mori on November 13, 2007.

Ambassador Porias is the second non-resident Ambassador accredited to the FSM. He is based in Canberra, Australia.

Ambassador Porias stated in his remarks that “climate change is one of the big challenges of our times – can only be tackled at a global level and in a coordinated manner. Austria is very much aware that a twofold approach is needed: reduction of greenhouse gas emission and adaptation to the consequences of climate change. We believe that international research in this field, as well as the transfer of technology and know-how, are indispensable tools in meeting these challenges. At present, Austria is examining the possibilities of support for climate change projects in the Pacific region.”

In receiving Ambassador Porias, President Mori congratulated him on his appointment as Ambassador to the FSM. President Mori further added that “as members of the international community, our two countries are both committed to the global effort to protect and manage the environment, promote human rights and the rule of law, and ensure a safe and peaceful world for our peoples and he looks forward to working with Ambassador Porias to advance these issues of mutual interests.”

In attendance at the accreditation ceremony were members of the President’s Cabinet and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
